Palm Oil-based Products

Crude Palm Oil (CPO)

Product Overview

Crude palm oil is produced from the pulp of the palm fruit. It is semi-solid at room temperature and melts to a clear red-orange liquid on slight heating. It has a rich source of carotenes and vitamin E. Like other crude oils, CPO contains impurities such as gums, pigments, trace metals and a host of other fat soluble compounds. Crude palm oil can be refined and further fractionated to widen its application.

Use For

Food Industry
Crude palm oil is used in cooking oil, margarine, shortening, cream, lotion, and milk. Also, non-dairy creamer and ice cream can also be made with crude palm oil.

Oil Industry
Crude palm oil is used as fuel in modified automobile engines. This is more environmentally friendly as the exhaust will contain less sulfur and nitrous product. Furthermore, the transportation of crude palm oil is safer and cheaper. Palm oil has been widely tested on taxis, big cars, trucks, tractors, and stationary engines with diesel alternatives.

Other Applications
Crude palm oil is used as an ingredient in the production of plasticizers, paints, and surface coatings. Besides, bio-diesel and soap are produced by crude palm oil by mixing with petrodiesel or processed through transesterification.

Palm Acid Oli (PAO)

Product Overview

Palm acid oil (PAO) is a by-product obtained from the refining of palm oil. Palm Acid Oil specifications contain mainly of Free Fatty Acid (FFA) up to 50% and neutral oil, with 2-3% moisture and other impurities. It is similar to palm fatty acid distillate, however FFA is generally lower in palm acid oil compare to palm fatty acid distillate.

Use For

Animal Feed Manufacturing
In the manufacturing of animal feed, palm acid oil (PAO) is used as a raw material

Biodiesel Industry
Palm acid oil (PAO) is used as the base material for biodiesel manufacturing.

Chemical Intermediates
Palm acid oil is used to manufacture palm-based different fatty acids for industrial uses. Mainly palmitic acid, oleic acid, stearic acid, and linoleic acid are manufactured from palm acid oil. Since it is cheaper compared to crude palm oil, so it finds applications in the manufacturing of low-cost fatty acids for industrial applications.

Palm-based Fatty Acids Manufacturing
Palm acid oil also can be used to manufacture various palm-based fatty acids such as palmitic acid, oleic acid, stearic acid, and linoleic acid.

Soap Manufacturing
Palm acid oil (PAO) is used as a raw material in the production process of laundry soaps

Palm Fatty Acid Distilled (PFAD)

Product Overview

Palm fatty acid distillate is a by-product of the crude palm oil refinery. It appears as a light brown solid at room temperature and melts into a brown liquid when heated. The melting point is 60°C. Palm fatty acid distillate is used in cosmetic and nutraceutical industries as a source ingredient for dietary supplements. It is also used as raw materials for animal feeds and laundry soaps.

Use For

Animal Feed
It is used as a feedstock for many different products of animal feeds such as calcium soap for animal feed.

Biodiesel
It is used as a low-cost raw material for biodiesel production.

Cosmetics
It is used to produce fatty alcohol and fatty acid esters used in cosmetic industries.

Detergents
It is used to manufacture laundry and toilet grade soap noodles depending on oils blend and ratios.

Other Applications
It is used to produce food emulsifiers, foam stabilizers, water repellants and to extract vitamin E.

Sludge Palm Oil (SPO)

Product Overview

SPO is one of the liquid waste product due to oil loss during the milling process and can be recovered as low-quality oil. Physically SPO is a yellowish brown semi-solid at room temperature with strong unpleasant odor. SPO has a high content of Free Fatty Acid (FFA) around 20-80 %, and it is undesirable for producing biodiesel.

Use For

Biodiesel
It is used as a low-cost raw material for biodiesel production.

Detergents
It is used to manufacture laundry and toilet grade soap noodles depending on oils blend and ratios.

RBD Palm Olein

Product Overview

Palm oil (also known as dendê oil, from Portuguese) is an edible vegetable oil derived from the mesocarp (reddish pulp) of the fruit of the oil palms, primarily the African oil palm Elaeis guineensis, and to a less extent from the American oil palm Elaeis oleifera and the maripa palm Attalea maripa. Palm oil is naturally reddish in color because of some high beta-carotene content. It is not to be confused with palm kernel oil derived from the kernel of the same fruit, or coconut oil derived from the kernel of the coconut palm (Cocos nucifera). The differences are in color (raw palm kernel oil lacks carotenoids and is not red), and in saturated fat content: Palm mesocarp oil is 41% saturated, while Palm Kernel oil and Coconut oil are 81% and 86% saturated respectively.

Use For

Food Industry

  • It is used to manufacture deep frying oil because it does not have an unpleasant room odor, has resistance to oxidation and does not polymerize to gums.
  • It is used to manufacture cooking oil used in houses for cooking due to its longer frying life. It is used in the production of a different kind of margarine.
It is used to manufacture different types of shortening due to high SFC (22–25%) at room temperature.
  • Also, crude palm olein is a raw material used in the production of margarine, Vanaspati, and other products.
